The present invention relates to an on screen display (OSD) character position compensating method that does not require a compensating circuit connected to a micro-computer's outside. This method includes the steps of comparing an input OSD vertical synchronous signal to 50Hz; if the vertical synchronous signal corresponds to 50Hz, setting the OSD character's vertical position to 50Hz; if not so, comparing the vertical synchronous signal to 60Hz; if the vertical synchronous signal corresponds to 60Hz, compensating it for 60Hz; and producing the character with the vertical position of 50Hz and compensated position of 60Hz.
