Method and programmable apparatus for the production of trains of pulses with variable width

The method involves generating an envelope signal (E) using a programmable counter with a central supply unit (1). The width of spaces in the envelope signal corresponds to the width of the pulse train. A carrier signal which has a frequency determined by the central unit is generated. The envelope signal and the carrier signal are modulated together. The carrier signal is synchronised with the envelope signal. The width of a space in the envelope signal is a whole number multiple of a period of the carrier signal.
