PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an estrogenic agent strongly bonding to an estrogen receptor, containing a compound derived from a plant and expressing estrogenic activity as an active ingredient, reduced in adverse effects and useful as a treating and preventing agent for osteoporosis and food additive for promotion of health. SOLUTION: This estrogenic agent contains a compound of the formula (R is H or an acyl) or its salt as an active ingredient. Though the compound of the formula wherein R is H, whose chemical name is 1,3-bis(4- hydroxyphenyl)-1,4-pentadiene, contains trans and cis substances, these both substances can be used. The compound of the formula can readily be isolated and purified and synthesized in a good yield from a natural plant material derived from stem, root, leaf, etc., by a well-known method. Furthermore, when the agent is used as a treating and preventing agent for diseases, the daily dose is 1-1000mg, preferably 5-500mg. |
