PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the leakage of molten metal and the occurrence of red heat and boring, etc., in iron shell of a tundish by detecting the invasion of the molten metal by the change of current value flowing through a current detector, converting this change of the current value into a signal and shutting off the molten metal stream. SOLUTION: The molten steel is invaded into a joint part 3 between a tuyere brick and an upper nozzle. When the molten steel comes into contact with an annular electrode 4, the current value of a lead wire 9 between electrodes is changed. Since the change of this current value can be detected by a current detector 10, the invasion of the molten steel into the joint part can be detected. The change of the current value is transmitted to a sliding plate driving part 12 as the signal, and the sliding plate 14 is driven with a sliding plate driving force transmitting part 13 and closed. By this method, the molten steel stream is shut off and the leakage, etc., of the molten steel can be prevented.
