PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the remaining amount of ink in an ink tank by a method wherein the remaining amount of ink is detected on the basis of the position, at which a movable detecting means provided so as to move between an upper limit position and a lower limit position ink the ink tank comes into contact with the ink. SOLUTION: When an ink jet recording device receives printing data under the state that ink 12 is filed in an ink tank 13, voltage is applied between a fixed electrode 20 and a movable electrode 22 by means of a microprocessor so as to run current between both the electrodes 20 and 21. As a result, the remaining amount of ink is judges to be a half or more of the capacity of the ink tank. When the lower end of the movable electrode 22 is not dipped in the ink 12 due to the decrease of the remaining amount of the ink, a spacing motor is driven so as to move a carriage 16 towards its home position. During this movement, the upper end of the movable electrode 22 is slid on the inclined surface 24 of a electrode travelling block 23, resulting in gradually moving the movable electrode 22 downwards until coming into contact with liquid level. The liquid level detecting position is detected from the output developing at the contact of the electrode 22 with the liquid level. |
