PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin composition and a material excellent in an electric insulating performance, rich in a crosslinking property, and excellent in the electric insulating performance also after crosslinked, and to obtain an electric wire having an electric insulating layer comprising the material. SOLUTION: This resin composition comprises a resin component containing ethylene homopolymer or an ethylene-α-olefin copolymer obtained by polymerizing ethylene or copolymerizing the ethylene with a 3-20Cα-olefin in the presence of a catalyst containing a cyclopentadienyl skeleton ligand and a compound of the group IV transition metal in the periodic table, and having a density of 0.86-0.96g/cm<3> , a MFR of 0.001-200g/10min, a mol.wt. distribution of 1.5-5.0, a composition distribution parameter of <=2.00, and an electric activation energy of <=0.4ev, and further containing the units of a monomer selected from M1-M6 in the resin component. The units of the monomer selected from M1-M5 are contained in an amount of 5×10<-7> to 5×10<-3> mol/g of the resin component, or the units of M6 are contained in an amount of >=0.8 ethylene bond number/1,000 carbon atoms in the resin component. M1: a monomer containing a carbonyl group or carbonyl group derivative, M2: a hydroxyl groupcontaining monomer, M3: a nitro group-containing monomer; M4: a nitrile group- containing monomer, M5: an aromatic ring-containing monomer, M6: a compound or monomer containing two or more ethylene bonds.
