PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To absorb a large volume of ink without enlarging the setting area for a porous ink absorber for absorbing ink recovered from an ink jet type recording head. SOLUTION: Ink recovered from a recording head by a pump 34 through a cap 32 is discharged out of a discharge opening 46 and absorbed into a porous ink absorber 50. The ink absorber 50 is formed by overlapping plate-shaped porous blocks 54a-54f, and a notch section 52 is formed right under the discharge opening 46. The ink discharged out of the discharge opening 46 is diffused in the downward and horizontal directions in the blocks 54c-54f, the notch section 52, and also oozed into a block 54c and also blocks 54a and 54b by the capillarity. The absorption amount is increased by the portion to be absorbed into the blocks 54a and 54b forming the upper ink absorption layers without enlarging the setting area for the ink absorber 50 by the above arrangement. |
