The femoral prosthesis assembly consists of a shank (3) which is fitted into the medullary canal of the femur, and a neck (4) to receive a spherical head. The distal end of the shank is shaped to receive a fin (15) which holds the end of the shank at a selected distance from the inner surface of the bone cortex. The fin is made from polymethylmethacrylate and shaped to engage by friction with an axial channel and a radial slot in the prosthesis shank. It can be made into various sizes and has rounded edges. The upper end of the shank has a metaphysics section (3a) which broadens gradually, has rounded edges and smooth polished surfaces.
