The sander supports a sheet of emery cloth and has a groove (1b-c) to receive the ends of the emery cloth (2ab) after it has been wrapped around the periphery of the cylinder. A wedge (3) cooperates with the groove to retain the ends of the emery cloth and tension the cloth around the periphery of the cylinder. The groove can extend from the generatrices of the cylinder and opens tangentially into an opening (1c) extending over the whole height of the cylinder. The wedge can be formed as a dowel.
