The desk surface (1) is secured to a central transverse rod - optionally to stub rods at either side. The threaded rod ends (10) rest in corresponding notches (15) in the two vertical standards (2). The selected height, and tilt angle, are maintained by tightening wing nuts (11) on the rod ends. The book covers, with any read pages, are trapped under flat rigid bars (4), parallel to the desk sides, secured to the desk, top and bottom, by bolts (6) with wing nuts (7). Two clips (5) can slide along each bar as pages are turned they are slipped under the clips to secure them. A low-wattage shaded lamp (3), with mains connection (18), is mounted centrally (16) on the top edge.
