In the production of building materials, especially light building materials such as porous concrete, from sand, burnt lime, cement, sulphate source, water and conventional pore-formers, at least part (preferably all) of the sulphate source is an optionally hydrated calcium aluminate sulphate, preferably ettringite (C3A.3CS.32H) and/or monosulphate (C3A.CS.12H).
