Painting aid, especially for painting silk

A painting aid (10), especially for painting on silk,comprising filler particles (11) in a binder. This product (10) is applied to the areas to be painted (2) on substrate (1), and the nature and concentration of filler (11) are such that product (10) dries to form an absorbent, porous layer (12) of filler particles (11) on the area to be painted, surrounded by a filler-free boundary zone (2a). Also claimed is a process for applying colour to a part (2) of a substrate, using a painting aid (10) as flow limiter and flow distributor for the paint.
