Gassing pests in or on walls, building materials or structural components or in or on wooden or similar organic works of art and cultural articles, placed or located in a treatment enclosure (such as a church or museum room, film cage, tent or bubble) comprises introducing at least one isothiocyanate (A) into the treatment enclosure. (A) is introduced into the enclosure at a concentration of 5-400 mg/litre at 5-42 deg C to act upon and kill insects of the families Dermestidae, Ptinidae, Tineidae, Anobiidae, Lyctidae, Cerambycidae, Blattidae, Blattelidae and Kalotermitidae or Rhinotermitidae and fungi of the Basidiomycetes, Ascomycetes and fungi imperfecti groups. Also claimed is an apparatus for the process, in which (A) is supplied to a heatable container (4) and passed by heating and evaporation into the treatment enclosure (1).
