Common-rail fuel injection system monitoring method

The method controls the pressure in the high pressure section of the fuel injection system so that it increases above a threshold value, for operation of a pressure limiting valve (145), which connects the high pressure section with the low pressure section. The pressure in the high pressure section is evaluated for indicating a fault in the operation of the pressure limiting valve.
