PROCESS FOR STORAGE OR TRANSMISSION OF STEREOSCOPIC VIDEO SIGNALS

This invention concerns a process for storage or transmission of stereoscopic video signals which include a left and a right video signal; after prefiltering, the left and the right video signal are subsampled and combined using a time-multiplexing process; the combined signal is encoded reducing the data and decoded after transmission or storage; the decoded combined signal is once again divided into a left and a right video signal, and the sampling values lost from subsampling are replaced by interpolated sample values. Data reduction is preferably done by encoding with the MPEG process.
