The pressure roller is arranged in a thermal fixing station, and over it a recording carrier is pressed against a heated fixing roller, in a fixing gap. The pressure roller has a metal core (10) and an elastic layer (11). The pressure roller has a collar or bandage type sheathing (13), including an elastic layer (11). The sheathing is designed in such a way that it reduces the temp. dependent radial expansion of the elastic layer, without hindering the deformability of the pressure roller in the fixing gap. The sheathing (13) has a coil of windings of a strand or strip shaped material, arranged tight and close to each other. The sheathing has a net or woven type structure (17) of thread type material. The thread or strand shaped material is made of metal or plastic.
