Application of a stable printed image to a textile substrate comprises: (a) preparing a laminated ink transfer sheet with a base, release layer and ink-receptive layer containing quaternary ammonium salt; (b) preparing an ink containing anionic dye and vehicle; (c) using this ink to make a print on the receptive layer; (d) contacting the print with the textile; (e) applying enough heat to the transfer sheet to transfer the ink and release layer to the textile; and (f) removing the base layer.
