A bicycle mechanism to permit a forward force to be applied to the bicycle's drive wheel by backward rotation of the bicycle's pedals in addition to permitting a forward force to be applied to the drive wheel by a forward rotation of the pedals. The bicycle mechanism includes a pedal sprocket (105) mounted on a pedal shaft and drives a main chain (111). The main chain (111) drives a pair of one-way freewheeling clutches (116, 122). Each freewheeling clutch (116, 122) is connected to a separate shaft (114, 120) and a collector sprocket (132, 136). The collector sprockets drive a collector chain (131) which in turn drives a drive chain (151) through sprockets (140 and 152).
