The indicator has an optical receiver which detects the environmental light intensity. The receiver forms part of an existing optical interface for wireless data exchange between two electronic devices with an optical receiver and an optical transmitter. A DC signal represents the intensity of the ambient light and an AC signal is used for data exchange across the interface. Data are exchanged between a first optical transmitter and a receiver (S1,E1) which form part of a programming and diagnostic unit (DE). Second transmitter and receiver (S2,E2) form part of an optoelectronic cooker point controller (MC).
