Propulsion unit

An atmospheric propulsion unit consists of a tube 10 with one end 11 closed. A piston 12 is fitted in the tube and is driven back and forth by a rod 14 which passes through the closed end and is attached to a reciprocating mechanism 15. At the open end an impeller 16 is located and driven by a high speed drive 17. In an alternative arrangement ( Figure 2, ) a diaphragm (20) and diaphragm housing (21) are utilised instead of a piston and tube.
