PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain rice chaff charcoal which is prepared by allowing rice chaff charcoal to carry magnetic iron oxide and using an inorganic oxide as an auxiliary carrier and is useful as a base material for soil conditioner in which the magnetic iron oxide resists to disconnection from the rice chaff charcoal and the persistency of its soil-conditioning effect and continuous cropping are excellent. SOLUTION: A magnetized magnetic iron oxide, for example, ferrous oxide, magnetite iron oxide, maghemite iron oxide, is carried by rice chaff charcoal on its surfaces and in its fine pores and the carrying of the iron oxide by rice chaff charcoal is helped by an inorganic oxide such as silicon oxide or aluminum oxide. This rice chaffs are brought into contact with a liquid containing colloidal silica or colloidal aluminum, then a powder of an iron compound is adhered to the rice chaffs, which is carbonized under conditions of oxygen supply suppressed, then the product is magnetized whereby the objective soil conditioner is obtained. |
