548,487. Controlling alternative fuels. HALLEWELL, G., and BLACKSTONE & CO., Ltd. April 9, 1941, No. 4753. [Class 7 (vi)] In an engine operating with alternative fuels, means are provided for rendering the governor operation effective on the particular fuel which is being used, while its effect upon the other fuel is largely nullified. Fig. 1 shows the invention applied to an engine using either oil fuel supplied by a pump z, or gas fuel controlled by a valve v, a small amount of oil being supplied in the latter case for ignition purposes only. The governor oscillates a spindle a connected through slotted areas d, e of a lever c on the spindle to the control rods s, p of the two fuels. The pins m, n connecting the slotted arms to the rods s, p are connected together by a link l which is moved so as to bring the pins to either end of their slots, by means of a lever f engaging a pin k on the link l. In the position shown, the oil-control rod s is not operated by the oscillations of the spindle a, whereas the gas-control rod p is operated to its fullest extent. The lever f is held in its two positions by a spring button engaging countersunk holes g, h, or by a removable pin engaging both levers. ' |
