The item (4) has a protruding peripheral flange (9), and is accommodated in an opening in the plate (1). A supporting ring (15) is placed on the non-visible side of the item, to cover the joint seam between the item and the plate on the underside, and is glued in place at least along the seam. The ring can be joined to the flange or plate by welding, and the opening in the plate can be cut out by laser. The ring and flange can be supported by another thicker plate (8), which can be covered by a watertight sheet before assembly. The flange can be a close fit against the opening edge, with the plate and flange surfaces being flush.
