PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the outflow of the molten metal from an edge part in welding the edge part of a rough bar by blowing the cooling gas to the edge part to be welded of the rough bar. SOLUTION: Unless the welding quantity of >=40% of the total thickness is secured in welding an edge part 5, the welding force can not be secured by the tensile stress during the rolling by a finish mill, and the welding of preceding and succeeding rough bars can not be maintained, and the rough bar is broken with the part as a starting point. The welding starting point is set inside of the edge part of the rough bar, the welding of the metal is advanced to the edge part, and in order to secure the welding force through solidification of the molten metal, the cooling gas is blown toward the edge part 5 diagonally from the upper part in the vicinity of the edge part of the rough bar to prevent outflow and dropping of the molten metal. Thus, the welded part is not broken to realize the completely continuous rolling. |
