PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new protein having a cell adhesion activity, capable of adhering epithelial cells to a culture container to proliferate the cells, and useful as a culture substrate, etc., by extracting the cell surface protein of bifidobacterium with an alkali metal salt or a surfactant. SOLUTION: This new protein is originated from a bifidobacterium and has a cell adhesion activity. The protein can efficiently adhere cells, especially epithelial cells, to a culture container to proliferate the cells, and is useful as a substrate for the culture of the cells. The new protein is obtained by extracting the cell surface protein of a bifidobacterium such as Bifidobacterium longum, Bifidobacterium adlescentis, Bifidobacterium breve or Bifidobacterium infanitis with an alkali metal salt or a surfactant. |
