The device is used with a head (20) which is moved into and out of an operational position by a slotted slider (10) which is guided (4) on a fixed support (2). The head active element (22) is protected by a shutter (16) of the same size which is positioned on a flexible blade (18) at one end of the slider. Movement of the shutter between its two stable positions involves use of studs (12,13) which run along the slider slots (11) with assistance from a spring (17). The travel of the shutter is limited by a stop (19) on the support.
