CARBON-COMBINED BRICK EXCELLENT IN RESISTANCE TO SPALLING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brick satisfactorily usable even as a carbon-combined brick especially in a low carbon region by improving resistance to spalling without losing corrosion resistance of a carbon-combined brick. SOLUTION: This carbon-combined brick contains 0.5-10 pts.wt. of pitch containing 65-90wt.% of fixed carbon and having a 150-350 deg.C softening point and 0.5-10 pts.wt. of a powdery thermosetting phenolic resin having >=2,000 weight-average molecular weight based on 100 pts.wt. of a composition comprising 70-97 pts.wt. of a basic refractory material mainly composed of magnesia and 3-30 pts.wt. of a carbonaceous material.
