PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver by which accuracy of maximum likelihood decoding (Viterbi decoding) is improved and a BER(bit error rate) is reduced even when the state of the line is deteriorated. SOLUTION: A discrimination control section 120 uses a square root mean E (k) of an error signal (e) in training to discriminate a convergence state of a modem. In this case, a discrimination decoding device 114 revises a trelis length used for decoding based on a discrimination result from the discrimination control section 120. That is, a modem at a receiver side compares the square root mean E (k) of the error signals in training with a prescribed threshold level set in advance and changes the trelis length used for maximum likelihood decoding (Viterbi decoding) depending on the result of comparison. |
