PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the lubrication of a cone clutch as well as to make the direct measurement of a clearance between conical surface clearances of this cone clutch by forming a lubricating hole in a differential case, and exposing an interval ranging from a large diametral part of a side gear side conical surface to the small diametral part to the outside. SOLUTION: A differential case 3 of a differential gear 1 is made up of locking a casing body 5 and a cover 7 with a bolt 8. Four ribs 45 are formed on an outer surface of the cover 7 at regular intervals in the rotational direction, and plural pieces of circular through lubricating holes 49 and unpierced circular holes 51, for example, by two pieces are installed each in these ribs 45 at a position preceding to the direction of rotation of the differential case 3. In these lubricating holes 49, the whole surface ranging from a large diametral part of a conical surface 39 of a side gear 25 to the small diametral part is made so as to be exposed to the outside. The cover is made to be lighter in weight owing to these holes 51. Lubrication is smoothly carried out from the lubricating holes 49. In addition, a thickness gauge is inserted from the lubricating hole 49, through which a clearance between two cone clutches 33 and 35 is directly measured.
