PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lessen the fusion splicing connection loss of a glass waveguide and optical fibers. SOLUTION: The thickness of the clad glass films of the glass waveguide 1 constituted by forming core waveguides 2 on a quartz glass substrate and further, forming the clad glass films is specified to >=35μm. As a result, the occurrence of misaligmnent between the glass waveguide 1 and the optical fibers 3, 4 is obviated. Consequently, the fusion splicing loss in fusion splicing of the glass waveguide 1 and the optical fibers 3, 4 is lessened and, further, the tensile strength is improved. |
