PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous polyester resin dispersion which comprises a polyester resin (A), a basic compound (B), an amphiphilic organic solvent (C) and a compound (D) having a protective colloidal effect, and which has excellent film processability, water resistance, corrosion resistance, chemical resistance, weatherability and adhesive properties and also excellent storability even at a high solid concentration realized by homogeneously dispersing fine particles of the component (A) in an aqueous medium. SOLUTION: The component A substantially comprises a polybasic acid (such as terephthalic acid) and a polyhydric alcohol (such as ethylene glycol) and has an acid value of 10 to 40mgKOH/g and a weight-average molecular weight of at least 9,000 or a relative viscosity of at least 1.20. In the particle size distribution of the component A after the dispersion, the median diameter based on the volume is 2μm or smaller and the maximum particle size is not larger then 10μm. The component B is, for example, N,N-dimethylethanolamine. The component C effective in plasticizing the component A is, for example, ethylene glycol n-butyl ether. The component D is, for example, a polyvinyl alcohol.
