Eliminating acoustic echoes in telephone call using digital audio terminal

The method of eliminating acoustic echoes involves connecting a digital audio terminal (10) to an acoustic echo controller (14) implemented on an exchange (12). The echo characteristics of a room in which the terminal is placed are determined. A speech signal is detected on the echo controller. A calculated echo signal is eliminated from a second speech signal in the echo controller. A built in voice switching circuit (32) in the audio terminal is disconnected, if available. The echo controller simultaneously operates on several telephone calls.
