The chair backrest (6) is mounted in a pivoting undercarriage (3) beneath the seat (8) of the chair. Tilting the backrest backwards allows the seat to be moved forwards. The front of the seat is connected to the chair adjustment mechanism (11) that can be moved along its length direction. The mechanism is linked to a control section (12) in the undercarriage. A telescopic arrangement comprising inner and outer tubes is used to form the control section and adjustment mechanism. A gas spring (16) consisting of a simple gas cylinder with a piston housed inside a chamber is located inside the inner tube. The piston is secured to the inner tube whilst the piston chamber is connected to the outer tube and can be moved up and down the inner tube. Moving the seat forwards allows the outer tube and the chamber to be moved forwards, causing compensatory movement of the piston. |
