PURPOSE:To obtain the silicon carbide type sintered body having high strength by calcining the compsn. of silicon carbide, particles or fibers of a metal oxide having a specific particle size or the precursor thereof. a boron compd., and an org. material. CONSTITUTION:The raw material compsn. consisting of the silicon carbide, the particles or/and fibers of the metal oxide having <=Dmu average diameter of/and the precursor to become the particles or/and fibers of the metal oxide having <=Dmu average diameter, the boron compd., and carbon or/and the org. material which is made into the carbon by thermal decomposition is prepd. This raw material compsn. is calcined, by which the desired silicon carbide type sintered body is obtd. The average diameter D is expressed by the equation when the above-mentioned metal oxide is designated as MaOb (M is a metal element; a, b are integers); the mol. wt. of this metal oxide as M<1>; the sp. gr. as rho<1>; the metal boride in the silicon carbide type sintered body to be produced as McBd (M is a metal element, c, d are integers); the mol. wt. of the metal boride as M<2>, and the sp. gr. as rho<2>. |
