The auxiliary ball joint section (1) has a form identical to that of the joint section to be emplaced on the retained part of the existing joint. The auxiliary section has a first face for sliding contact with the femoral section (4) and a second face to contact the resected section (11) of the remaining section. Positioning lugs (3) retain the auxiliary section on the femoral section and pins (10) are provided with the auxiliary joint section to mark at least one point of contact between the auxiliary joint section and the existing section.
