The heater consists of a network of watertight insulated resistance wires (1) woven into the thickness of the diver's vest (2) and connected (3) via a plug and socket (4) to batteries (5) which are hooked on to the belt (6) and perform the role of conventional ballast weights. The equipment includes an on/off switch (8) and a thermostat (7) for adjustment of the desired temperature over a predetermined scale. In any emergency the switch can be opened, the plug and socket disconnected and the belt jettisoned.
