The folding seat has a base (P) comprising two hinged uprights (12,14) supporting a seat (10). One seat part is hinged (18) on the first upright and a second seat part (20) slides along the second upright and is supported on a stop (22) when the seat is in its first configuration. The second upright is longer than the first upright and supports the back (24). The back structure is of variable geometry able to pivot about a spindle (28) fixed to the second upright. The back structure comprises a plate (25) able to occupy a second stable configuration relative to the seat different to the configuration in which it forms a back for the seat.
