This invention concerns a process for correcting a problem which arises with the use of the WEIGHTED FAIR QUEUING SCHEDULING process which leads to loss of ATM cells. In this invention, ATM cells treated according to the WEIGHTED FAIR QUEUING SCHEDULING process undergo an additional process step involving peak bit rate limitation.
