The amplifier has a multiplier for mixing a measurement signal with a reference signal and a devices for non-linear transformation of the measurement signal and reference signal to vary the phase selectivity. At least one transformation device contains a digital signal processor. At least one transformation device contains an analogue component with a non-linear characteristic.
