The support has a rotationally symmetric pot (3) which fits into a gap (2) on each of the narrow sides of a step (1). Each gap opens towards the underside of the step and towards the adjacent narrow side. The pot can rotate in the gap, and has a rib-like groove with a U-shaped cross section which opens downwards. A bolt (7) is screwed into each cheek (6), and its free end can engage in the groove of the associated pot in order to fasten the step to the cheek. The pot may also be cylindrical, and may fit into a cylindrical gap in the step.
