The control unit (30) for a medical device has an actuator part (32) and an electric signal output (46). This outputs a control signal for a control computer of the medical device, on the basis of actuation of the actuator part (32). The actuator part (32) is fastened to a work stool (36) at heel height. The actuator part (32) may have a sealed pressure bellows connected to a pressure transducer with analysis electronics, via a conduit (38). The analysis electronics output the electric signal in dependence on the pressure acting on the transducer (42). The bellows (32) may be elongate and may be attached to a support column of the work stool (36). The analysis electronics (44) may have circuitry to generate the control signal on the basis of pressure variation on the transducer (42). The signal output may be fitted into an electric connection line which connects a computer keyboard with the control computer. The control signal may correspond to a digital word from a function key of the keyboard (26).
