A gas laser 12 having a spatial optical pointing path 75, includes a disposable module 20 comprising a housing 40 containing at least one of the following laser elements: a lasing medium, a cavity structure and an activator, the disposable module being mountable in a laser system and being replaceably by an end user with another disposable module such that the spatial optical pointing path is substantially unchanged. Mating mounting rails 42, slots 50 and guide pins 70 ensure that the module 20 is positioned accurately relative to a recess 46 in chassis 48 so as to establish the optical pointing path. Quick release connectors for high voltage 56A,B, low voltage 58A,B and cooling fluid 60A,B,62A,B are provided to couple the module to the chassis.
