Tree- or mast-climbing aid

The climbing aid has a retaining rope (1) with clip and ring fittings (3,4) at its opposite ends for securing it to a safety harness or safety belt worn by the climber. A safety rope which is passed around the tree or mast (6) is secured to the retaining rope on the opposite side to the climber via clips (5) at either end of the safety rope. The retaining rope and/or the safety rope may be provided with a length adjuster, or either or both can be formed in at least two sections coupled together via a releasable coupling.
