Adhesive/adherend systems (10) of this invention comprise a siloxane-modified adhesive component (14) and a siloxane-modified adherend component (12, 16). The siloxane-modified adhesive component (14) is prepared by combining an epoxy resin with an organosilane ingredient, a polysiloxane resin, an amine hardener, an organometallic catalyst, a base catalyst, and any thickener and extender pigment. The siloxane-modified adherend component (12, 16) is prepared using a polysiloxane resin and may also contain other resins suc as epoxy, phenolic, polyester, vinyl ester, polyurethane, polyamide, melamine, furan, acrylate, thermoplastic polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polycarbonate, ABS, polystyrene, ethylene vinyl acetate, polyvinyl acetate, polyamide, and polypropylene resins. When placed into contact with one another, the siloxane groups in the siloxane-modified adhesive (14) and siloxane-modified adherend components (12, 16) form Si-O-Si bonds between themselves to form an attachment force that both occurs at ambient temperature within a reasonable amount of time, and that is greater than otherwise possible using adhesive/adherend systems having unmodified adhesive and/or adherend components.
