Production of polyamide-imide by direct polymerisation

Production of high-mol. wt. polyamide-imide resin (I), comprises (a) condensation of an aromatic tricarboxylic acid anhydride (II) with an aromatic diamine (III) in a polar solvent (IV) to give a di-imide-dicarboxylic acid; and (b) reaction with an acyl-halogenating agent (V) and (c) direct polymerisation of the intermediate obtained with diamine.
