<p>A seat recliner (16) having a linear recliner mechanism (18) and a dump mechanism (20) is disclosed. The linear retractor device is provided for adjusting the reclined position of the seatback (12). The dump mechanism (20) includes a bracket (28) mounted to the seat bottom (14) which has a pair of elongated guide slots (76a and 76b) formed in two sidewall (72 and 74) portions thereof. A carriage (80) is slidably mounted in the elongated guide slots (76a and 76b) of the bracket (28) and is coupled to the linear retractor mechanism (18) for permitting sliding movement thereof between a memory position and a free position relative to the bracket (28). A latch device is provided for releasably securing the linear retractor mechanism (18) in the memory position. When secured in its memory position, linear recliner mechanism (18) can be selectively actuated to adjust the reclined position of the seatback (12) between upright and fully-reclined positions. When the latch device is actuated, the linear retractor mechanism (18) can be slid toward its free position in response to movement of the seatback (12) toward its dumped position. Return of seatback (12) from its dumped position causes linear recliner mechanism (18) to again be secured in its memory position so as to locate and retain the seatback (12) in its previously reclined position.</p> |
