<p>An ultrasonic transducer assembly for generating and receiving ultrasonic vibrating forces comprises an ultrasonic transducer (12) and a unitary housing (30) for mounting to a marine vessel. The housing (30) has a cavity (32) formed therein for disposing the ultrasonic transducer (12). An acoustic window portion (30W) transmissive to the sonic vibrating forces is formed in the bottom of the housing (30). The ultrasonic transducer (12) includes a transducer element (16) having a cork layer (18) on its sides an inner foam layer (20) on its top surface. A potting material (26) such as urethane encapsulates the ultrasonic transducer (12) in the cavity (32). A portion (26A) of the potting material (26) forms a potting layer between the bottom surface of the transducer element (16) and the acoustic window portion (30W) of the housing (30). The ultrasonic transducer (12) includes an electrostatic shielding enclosure (22) which surrounds the top and sides of the transducer element (16) and has an outer foam layer (24) on its outer surface to impede and attenuate unwanted transmission of ultrasonic pressure waves toward the transducer element (16).</p> |
