Leak detection method for fuel injection system of motor vehicle

The fuel injection system (3) of a combustion engine (2) is connected to the test stand (1) by flow and return hoses (9, 23). The injection system is filled with fuel or oil by a high-pressure pump (5) at test pressure applied to the jets (6) and collector rail (7) while the engine is driven externally, without firing, via the crank shaft (4). The pre-pump (11) and test pressures and the quantity of outflow fuel are checked. The difference between inflow and outflow rates are measured and a signal is generated if a given value is exceeded. Further pressure and flow tests are conducted with stationary engines.
