Polyamide contains molecular chains of formula (I) or (II): R1-[-A-X-(-Y-R2-Z)n-R3]m (I) R4-[-Y-R2-Z-]p-R3 (II) Y = -N(R5)- when X and Z = -C(O)-; and Y = -C(O)- when X and Z = -N(R5)-; A = a covalent bond or a 1-20 C aliphatic hydrocarbon radical which may contain heteroatoms; R2 = 2-20 C optionally branched aliphatic or aromatic group; R3, R4 = H or a hydrocarbon group containing a -C(O)- or -N(R5)- group; R5 = H or 1-6 C hydrocarbon group; R1 = a linear or cyclic, aromatic or aliphatic hydrocarbon group with at least 2C and optionally containing heteroatoms; m = 3-8; n =100-200; and p = 100-200. Also claimed is a process for the production of a polyamide.
