A window assembly comprises a movable frame 14 coupled by a hinge to a fixed frame 12 to allow the movable frame to be swung open and closed. A male engagement pin or spigot 46 projecting from the movable frame 14 engages in a socket 60, 72 on the fixed frame 12 as the window is closed. The spigot 46 has a tapered or rounded tip 50 on one side which progressively engages a tapered mouth surface 92 of the socket 72, to draw the frames into sealing engagement when in the closed position, and to prevent the frames from being levered open, and a flat profile 98 on the other side for obstructing removal. In one form, the pin is reinforced with webs and with a support plate. The socket may be shaped in a complementary fashion to that of the spigot and its position may be adjustable to vary the degree of compression. The socket can have spikes which bite into the surface of the frame to hold the spigot in position. |
